blossoming into the great unknown
May 30/31 Full Moon in Sidereal Scorpio, Anuradha Nakshatra
A dark, debilitated full Moon, deep in the belly of the Earth is what Scorpio is all about.
Why is it that the Moon is debilitated in Scorpio? In our natal charts, the Moon represents the conditioned mind, deep emotional waters and the shadow aspects of our psyche. When Moon enters Scorpio, it takes on some of its traits. This is why whenever the Moon transits Scorpio - which happens once a month every month - if we pay attention, we might notice that during this time our thoughts feel darker than usual. Deeper than usual.
Scorpio isn’t afraid of the dark - it seeks it out. The challenge is not the dark. It is not to get stuck there.. for the great purpose of any dark womb is ultimately rebirth. Transformation. Evolutionary growth, which is not the same as change.
Change is inevitable. Transformation is a conscious choice. Awakening and personal growth do not happen without darkness. Your self might already be familiar with one (or several) experiences of a ‘dark night of the soul’… and who you were before and after that ‘night’ are two people destined never to meet except within your own consciousness.
Scorpio isn’t afraid of death. It ponders death deeply. Living so close to the ground it has been stepped on before. Hence, its venomous, reactive sting that protects it from harm.
It’s important to remember that every debilitated planet has a strength. The ability to look at our shadows and connect with the dark is the only way to discover integrated wholeness. Otherwise we just end up light washing every challenge that arises for us while living in a fantasy land of ‘rainbows & unicorns’ where nothing truly feels real. Bypassing all our true feelings so that we don’t have to step outside our comfort zone is ultimately a much more exhausting and dangerous way to live. Forever running. Forever pretending. Forever searching for meaning outside ourselves only to discover that what remains within is an empty cave waiting for us to return and light the fire.
Human beings are generally afraid of the unknown. Hence, our superficial aversion to change. Yet the moment we stand ready to face and embrace that which we cannot know or control, is when our true power emerges from the depths of our being ~ the eternal nature of Soul.
Anuradha Nakshatra, “the star of success”
The symbol of Anuradha is a blossoming lotus flower. Where does a lotus flower bloom except out of the dark depths of the mud, the earth and stagnant waters? The lotus flower, which represents the blossoming of Divine consciousness, self-awareness, success, open-heartedness and deep, inner connection with Soul & Spirit, is the message of this full Moon.
We don’t want to get stuck in the depths of negative thought. We do not want to stay in the dark night endlessly. But, if we don’t experience it, if we don’t at least become intimate friends with the dark, we cannot ever really truly know the light either. If we do not know our shadow, we cannot fully embody our light.
Every light casts a shadow. Every soul’s light has a shadow too ~ within it are held the seeds for our awakening. Our transformation. Our blossoming…
This full Moon is an invitation to look deeply at and acknowledge the shadow aspects of our psyche. To make the unconscious conscious is the greatest work we can do - to set ourselves free from the subconscious programming and conditioned behaviours that dictate our lives into the ever-repeating known is to quantum leap in consciousness. We don’t discover courage by ignoring our fears, but by acknowledging them.
This full Moon is an opportunity to realize that we cannot outrun the shadow… Life will always find a way to wake us up. In my experience, it’s much easier to leap like a wolf across a raging river than be swept away by its force.. banging my head on every rock as it shakes me loose from the ego’s tight grasp and spits me out the other side. Either way, the crossing, the growth is destined to happen for that is the nature of Nature. Only the discontinuous events in time result in evolutionary growth.
Reflection…
The New Moon two weeks ago was an exalted, fiery Moon in Taurus that opened us into a field of new possibility and growth. Big downloads and insights came in for many of us, allowing us to see where chords needed to be cut and which ways we truly wanted our lives to grow. All of that energy led us into this full Moon which, like all full Moons, is a time to release, surrender and let go at the culmination of what the New Moon energies began.
Interestingly, the next New Moon in two weeks time will again be exalted in Sidereal Taurus ~ this time in the final degrees of Taurus ~ inviting us to really blossom and shine our hearts out of the mud and into the light. But first, surrender.
Surrender into the great unknown. The not knowing. The unknowable gifts of the dark night. Surrender into the cosmic womb held deep within our hearts wherein the wisdom of entire intergalactic Universe is held.
Scorpio has a tendency to try to control change, but that’s ego ~ not the medicine of Scorpio which is about unexpected change, surrender.. letting go and leaping across the illusion of the great divide that says things have to be a certain way. It’s about vulnerability and openness which allows for the light to return and find us blossoming into the life our Soul is longing to know.
The Light Returns
Do the work now so that next month, after Jupiter moves into Cancer June 1st (where it is exalted) and the June 30th Full Moon falls into Sidereal Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter) offers tremendous opportunity for expanding our light. Seeds planted in fertile soil with love grow exponentially more than seeds planted in resistance.
Human beings are held by grace in every breath we take. Breathe deep. Breathe consciously and allow this grace to create space within you. Find ways to centre and ground your energy at this time. Meditation, prayer, yoga.. light a candle and reflect upon the quiet whispers of the heart. Do not be afraid of the dark for just like death, it holds great wisdom and teachings for those who are ready to receive.
Wishing you ALL the LOVE in the WORLD.
MANTRA
In moments of darkness, Mantra (heart expansion) can be a great tool to work with ~ allowing us to connect at the vibratory level with the essence of our being. The Gayatri Mantra is both an ancient and timeless vehicle for channeling light. If you feel charmed, listen to or chant Gayatri as a way of integrating these profound cosmic energies at play.

In each of the three planes of existence,
we recall within ourselves and meditate upon
that wondrous Spirit of the Divine;
may Divine Light guide our inner vision.
