Work your Light
One of my most beloved guides has been Baba Ram Dass, whose Soul crossed over and left his human body while my partner at the time and I were listening to some of his talks in Costa Rica during December of 2019. It had been a while since I had connected with his energy and, as one of the first light workers to spark me out of my slumber during my early 20s, I was grateful to reconnect and be "in space" with him, in conscious connection, at the time of his Soul's rebirth…
When Ram Dass first pilgrimaged to India he was guided to his Guru, Maharaji and they became lifelong friends. When Ram Dass first met him, he eagerly asked Maharaji how he could become enlightened; however, much to his “educated” surprise, he did not get the answer he expected...
Ram Dass was a learned Scholar and Teacher and from all he’d studied about "the spiritual journey" and practised to become more enlightened, he expected his Guru to tell him what he had studied about "becoming wise". He expected Maharaji to instruct him in the ancient art of “cave dwelling”… after all, the books Ram Dass had read on spiritual enlightenment, told many stories of monks sitting in caves meditating, and naturally, Ram Dass assumed this would be true for him.
However, Maharaji did not tell Ram Dass to go sit in a cave in silence.. Instead, he answered quite simply that the way to enlightenment was to work your light. Maharaji replied, "feed people”.
Ram Dass, like so many of us, had an intellectual concept of enlightenment as a kind of goal one was supposed to “achieve”, but what he discovered was that the “light” within all of us is here to walk a path and that by embodying the purpose of our light (also known as Dharma), we bring the blessings of love through our actions into the world. Ram Dass listened, awakened to his purpose and spent the rest of his life working to fulfill it.
~ Be humble.
Be here now.
Respond to the moment.
Feed people. Nourish their souls. Feed their spirit with love in all ways.
Work your light in Service to LOVE. ~
LIGHT WORKERS WORK THEIR LIGHT
The term “light worker” may have become a “new age label” as one word for anyone awakened to a spiritual path, but at its core, it is really the simplest description for what Souls on a Spiritual path are working on every single day. It’s about connecting with the light of our Soul and taking the necessary steps of embodying our Soul Purpose in everything we do… It is Soul Embodiment.
In Yoga Teacher Trainings as in life, I have been asked many times, usually by light workers themselves who are not yet sure whether they “qualify” or are “ready” to step into their light, “what is a light worker?”.
Their intuition and higher Self may be calling them to step into their full potential but since it is not something most of us have been taught, we may fall into the conditioned mind that thinks we need to “do something”, become “some” one, study “more” to somehow achieve an illusory status of “some kind” before we can relate with the term and step into our LIGHT.
However nothing could be further from the truth because your light is always yours to work however you feel called to express it. You are a light and your free choice allows you to work it however you choose.
Our egos want to equate the term with a status label because it keeps us separate from and just outside the realm of realizing the power of our own light; it keeps us striving for something… Labels keep us separated and just outside the realm of taking responsibility for our light and our reality; and it keeps us playing life “small” in a field of infinite human potential!
YOU ARE THE GURU.
Light Workers Work their Light.
Simple. Lightworkers….here to ride the cosmic waves of quantum expansion and bring light into the darkness that has been pervading the Earth. Healers, Yogis, guides, teachers, Earth Defenders, Way Showers, Wisdom Keepers, Story Tellers, Star Seeds and many more beings who have chosen a sacred human vessel for a double mission - individual expansion as well as collective evolution into Christ/ Trans-Dimensional consciousness and beyond.
We are here to to work our light by shining it on and into the dark in order that we may reclaim the Divine on Earth. How we each do this is driven by our individual purpose and dharmic path. We are not meant to do it all the same, nor would it be as effective if we tried. Some of us protest and some of us pray. Some of us create art, youtube channels, write books, channel, work with children.. the list goes on and on.
ALL of us are ultimately working our light toward conscious evolution ~ unity consciousness. We are here to re-seed the planet with faith, respect for the miracle of diversity and LOVE for ALL of Creation, and we have been here many, many times before. We are a reflection of the great shift in human consciousness taking place now as we move out of the Kali Yuga and into the Dwarpara Yuga, which began in the late 1800s according to the great Vedic Jyotishi, Lahiri. (A Yuga is a like a long age of time of Earth, lasting several thousands of years and cycling through from the Golden Age to the Dark Age and back up again.)
What is Light Work & How Does it Differ from Light Washing?
Light work is often perceived as “rainbows & unicorns” ~ constantly talking about love & light, magic, crystals, yoga, singing in circles or eating vegan. Light workers who work their light are doing some of these things always because we have to in order to stay “light” in a very dense physical realm, but it does not paint a complete picture. Most of us adopt many practices for clearing and cleansing our bodies, our minds, emotions and our energies & auric fields because when we "work our light", we often go into the dark... We face and embrace the shadows in order to transmute them and create balance.
We don’t "Light Wash" issues facing humanity with random Spiritual truisms… there may be a reason for everything, but that doesn’t make it acceptable when the reasons are causing blatant harm, destruction, pain and suffering.
Light work is about reclaiming the Divine in EVERYTHING.
Though it may sound like a paradox, truthfully, light workers work "in the dark" a lot of the time. Light work is about finding the strength and the courage to go into the heart of darkness, embrace the ego deaths, flow in a river of constant change and illuminate, or bring “to light”, what has been hidden, ignored and forgotten; it’s about facing the dark void of ignorance within our world and within ourselves - to unravel, unlearn, illuminate, heal and transmute our own shadows into an integrated, whole, self-loving, self-realized, self-empowered, consciously embodied, Soul-centred Being.
It’s about uncovering the hidden truths within ourselves and our world by shining our light into the shadows instead of hiding from them. It is the challenging work of discovering the true nature of our Divine Soul and asks that we begin by dismantling old beliefs, shifting paradigms, rewriting and releasing subconscious mind patterning and programmed thoughts that keep us from remembering who we are. It is a transformative process of stepping into our Truth and Divine power and the only requirement is showing up to work your light ~which in many situations simply requires being, but may often involve speaking Truth from Soul rather than ego, which is a work-in-progress for any human..
Too often people are led to believe that to call yourself a light worker you must have some kind of illusory "spiritual status", but that form of spiritual egotism only perpetuates corrupt societal ideals designed to keep us feeling small and powerless. The truth is when one goes inside themselves to do the shadow work required to integrate the fullness of our Being, the realization (knowing) that we are all ONE becomes a part of the experience of being ONE with the ALL THAT IS and humbles us into remembering and embodying the full spectrum light of who we are - everything and nothing captured in a unique point of cosmic awareness, a light, a beacon, an eternal Soul incarnate briefly for a purpose and a mission, infinitely capable and powerful.
Cosmic Love Awakens Our Souls.
Every Soul is a Light. Light is energy, Prana, Chi and Life Force. Light is information!! Connection with our Soul allows us to express (or work) our Light in service to others. Each Soul Light carries unique information and profound divine wisdom within; however, it is our societal conditioning and programmed learning that dims most people’s lights.
Light flows when we do the consistent work of transmuting the shadows within ourselves first - understanding and integrating the wholeness of our Being - thereby amplifying our light and exponentially expanding our capacity to love and be loved for who we truly are. Light work is about remembering who we are and why we came; it’s about expanding our consciousness to see a bigger picture; it’s about coming into coherence with the true nature of our multi-dimensional selves. It’s about remembering ALL our lives and stringing them together into the continuous story and Truth of the “I AM”. One eternal NOW moment captured in experience by the Soul.
Light work is not about hippie music, boho clothes or festivals; it’s not about being a saviour, nor is it about being “saved”. It is about taking responsibility for ourselves, our lives, each other and our planet. Light work isn’t just talking about “love and light” and feeling the “good vibrations” all the time, especially when there is pain in our world and hearts. Light workers talk about the TRUTH - even when we are laughed at and often belittled, we will NOT live in ignore-ance of the ignored, the forgotten, the oppressed lives and suppressed voices, and WE WILL expose the manipulation, the mind control, the corruption, injustice, systemic brutality of our governing systems breeding fear and hate into the hearts of humanity. We will do it all differently, holding a deep love and compassion for what humanity has endured, and that is what makes it work.
If we think our job as light workers is to avoid pain and darkness, we’re setting ourselves up for a steep fall. If we “won’t look at” the horrors of our world with honest eyes, we are blinded by the light; if we think it’s about keeping life “light and fluffy” so that we don’t have to feel discomfort, our ego is still running the show.
For example, I am not opposed to humans eating meat in principle, but the industrial level of factory farming which has exploded during my lifetime to such toxic and unbelievably cruel proportions, simply for profit, is a “dirty secret” about which humanity must talk. It has been frequently stated that “if slaughterhouses had glass walls, no one would eat the meat coming from them”, but most of us choose not to look. Most of us don’t want to see sentient beings in agonizing pain because, no matter how many happy cows we’ve seen on the side of milk cartons advertising a blatant lie, we KNOW that if we look with an honest heart into the eyes of tortured animals that our Soul is tortured by it too. The mistake we have made is in believing that if we looked the other way, it wouldn't affect us, but we have been wrong.
We know that everything is connected. Everything is energy and energy vibrates and communicates constantly. We cannot separate ourselves from any living being on this planet because we cannot separate ourselves from Life. It is Life Force energy that sustains and animates us all ~ LOVE breathes us all.
Therefore, we KNOW that if we dare to look behind the veil of lies creating our perceived reality that we will KNOW and feel deeply compelled to change. And because we have all been deeply programmed to avoid change, this scares us… but we all have Soul Contracts and eventually…"the bell tolls” for all of us… reminding us that we are ONE.
A LIGHT WORKERS LIFE IS CONSTANT CHANGE
I remember the first time I hear this because the words rang in shivers through my body… “change” is all I have ever known and the one consistent energy I had discovered, but instead of resisting it, I was then finally opening to embrace it with wonder.
Change is the constant flow of LIFE and it is the Law of Love. A light worker’s life is constant change and for those of us willing to surrender to the flow, it is an enlightening, Soul-powered journey fuelled by great cosmic love. However, whereas change is inevitable, transformation is a choice.
Change is always happening around us but, rather than always reacting to circumstance, we may choose to engage with the process in a way that makes us a co-creative participant. We choose to practise and eventually master surfing the flow of change, for when we are living in the flow, we come to know that everything we need is always provided for us. The spiritual path empowers us to really see how we create and design our lives ~ everything is a reflection. Therefore, what do we wish to see?
Of the most ancient sciences, arts & philosophy there has always been Yoga. Often misunderstood, yoga has tried to teach humanity for millennia to accept and embrace change. Yoga teaches us how to flow and expand. So much more than exercise, yoga primes the body, mind and spirit to realign with Soul and receive our light, and ultimately guides us “home” ~ union with our Soul and Source ~ the journey of self-realization.
KNOW THYSELF.
But what does it mean to self-realize? To realize anything means to come into knowing: therefore, to realize is simply to know. Ancient yogic wisdom guides us toward the universe within where we may remember and realize Truth. Yoga and meditation teach us how to work with change so that we may transform back once again into the full wholeness of our True Self.
To enlighten we must begin to know who we are - to connect with the seeds of wisdom within; however, this is the knowledge most of humanity lacks. We have not been educated with Truth. Masked in our “roles” of human ego identification, we cannot possibly know who we are and so we become obsessed with who we “should be”.
Indoctrinated into belief systems adopted along the path laid before us to follow since birth. Be this! Do that! Check boxes and conform to society’s ideals of beauty, intelligence, power, success, status and on and on and on it goes…always be working towards “perfection”, happiness and fulfillment even if it’s not working for us, even if billions are starving, we are simply told to work harder. But, society isn’t sick because we aren’t working hard enough...Society is sick because we don’t, in Truth, know who we are…
LOVE & LIGHT meet LOVE & DARK
The moment we truly see, accept and realize our lives are not our own until we take them back, heal them and step into the Truth of who we are, we are living the life we’ve been told to follow. An entrained, or “fated” existence dictated by an imbalanced, profit-driven world order keeping us from working our light and stepping into our true power.
Spiritual truths aren’t meant to make us more accepting of the hate and violence in our world. Spiritual teachings aren’t meant to make us “more comfortable” with starvation, dis-ease and war. Spiritual wisdom is to make us turn and face, reflect and feed people! At some point we realize that our Soul’s mission is to stand for something. Spiritual growth is to evolve and it is supposed to make us uncomfortable so that we remember and ask ourselves: why am I here?
Truth is the grain of sand inside the oyster that with enough churning, alchemy and energy turns into a pearl and a gift. It is brilliant work that takes place in the Mother’s dark womb of creation.
Until we WAKE UP, we are asleep in ignorance of all that we truly are. Until we CRACK and LET THE LIGHT IN, we are living fated lives and not the truly wondrous adventures of our destiny!
Whether we “crack” via crisis, courage or sheer exhaustion, it begins the reconnection to the whispers of our Soul… but it takes courage to face the world as a direct reflection of ourselves. As we all know, every light casts a shadow and as Carl Jung concluded after a lifetime of observing the human consciousness, that the most difficult -and terrifying - thing for humanity to do is “accept oneself completely”.
For far too long humanity would rather go to war than truly “know ourselves”. It has been a true challenge and a test for humans to BE WHERE OUR FEET ARE, but it is possible and more than ever humanity is ready.
When we do “crack” and remember, our light starts to shine again and the healing begins… a process of soul retrieval and reconnection to that eternal part of ourselves that changes everything. It changes how we live, what we do, say, think, feel, how we express and what we want. It changes our entire perspective on life and the world because when we remember our true eternal core nature, what could we possibly have to fear? When we come to realize that we are not our bodies or our circumstances, we have expanded beyond knowing ourselves as purely material and have entered a deeply spiritual path that will take us into the “unknown”.
It’s not easy or comfortable to embrace our shadows, but it is necessary if we are to step into our light. It takes courage to face our “unconscious behaviours”, addictive and conditional thought patterns and it often requires healing old wounds and traumas from multiple lifetimes. It’s powerful work but we are so fortunate to be living in a time when so many people are waking to their True Nature and shining their light, for as dark as times may seem right now, it is only because we are remembering who we are and consciousness is rising so quickly on the planet that all the “sludge” and “evil” that has stayed hidden and ignored for far too long, is rising to the surface to be healed.
We chose to be here during these times with a mission and a purpose and it’s bigger than we can even imagine, but at the end of each day, while it might not be easy, it can be simple. Human beings are a force of Nature, a force of Love and a fractal of Source. Within each of us is a portal to the Source and the light. This portal is like a “vacuum” for energy through which we can “travel” to connect with our Soul; however, this “vacuum”, when misunderstood, makes us feel very uncomfortable when we don’t know how to connect and so we try to fill it with all kinds of seemingly soothing “stuff”. We try to “silence” it by numbing ourselves out and whatever space remains is filled with the constant “noise” of a disconnected and dis-eased society.
This is why we do sit and meditate, or chant, or hike in the forest so that we can begin to peel back the layers and uncover our Soul. Each layer reveals something new to us as we unfold into awakening and remembering and we may come to realize that life is always happening for us, not “to” us; that we are not victims of our circumstances, but we are the architects and designers of our lives!… and, what better way to do that than by working our light!
The Force is within ALL of us. How much we work with it is up to us, but Source flows infinitely through clear channels, illuminating the darkness within and around us. Source does not discriminate and empowers every one of us with infinite possibility and wisdom ~ there is no judgment. Life pushes us to evolve through the light and the dark for there would be no plants to eat without the dark, fertile soil; no sunrise without a sunset; no humanity without the darkness of a womb…
It is an unveiling, a remembering and an igniting of our fire, our LIGHT within. It is the work of moving between dimensions and bringing the mirror of truth closer so that it may burn away anything that does not serve us any longer.
To step into our destiny, release “the golden handcuffs”, break the chains of oppression, end the cycles of karma and suffering on Earth is the work and while we work to remove the illusions of this world by going deep within, we know that nothing is more important than being where our feet are so that we can feed people in whatever way they require nourishing. Whether we offer music, talks, words, art, food, innovation, transportation, shelter or technology, it is the conscious intention of the service that changes the experience on Earth from a “transaction” to a relationship.

Light workers have worked in the dark most of the time, but that is also changing... No on wants to "dwell" in darkness and that is certainly not the point. We talk about the ignored, the forgotten, the oppressed and suppressed, corruption and injustice because by sharing our understanding of the heavy, the hurtful, the dark, we bring light to where there once was little to none, and usually we do it by focusing on the positive and directing our energy on love, respect and cooperation, but before we can "move on", we have to know where we are at and that requires honesty. It requires self-acceptance of the way things have been so that we may release the energies of the old and create the space needed for creating the new Earth.
The truth doesn't have to be hurtful or mean, for we can say and do things with love. Anywhere we have collectively created pain, over many lifetimes and soul journeys, is where we will be asked to heal and be healed. Sometimes the truth does hurt, but what we know after millennia of "trials & tribulations", is that, even when it hurts "like hell", the Truth will always set you free. Humanity is in the process of becoming reacquainted with our True Selves, of reconnecting to Soul and our Nature. It is a wondrous time to be alive if we can see it. We are here to anchor in the higher dimensional frequencies of light, expanding consciousness and transforming life on Earth into the Heavenly potential she holds sacred within.
So the only real question dear light worker is, how do you choose to work your light?
Reclaim your power, your light and let it shine for others to see so that we may all become the beacons guiding each other home..
